What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a therapeutic technique that evolved from EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in the early 2000s by Dr. David Grand. It focuses on bilateral stimulation (moving both sides of the body) to engage both hemispheres of the brain, helping to process emotional and traumatic experiences. Brainspotting takes this a step further by identifying "brain spots," specific eye positions that correspond to areas in the brain where emotional trauma is stored. This approach allows for deeper, more efficient emotional processing, leading to quicker healing compared to traditional therapies like EMDR.

Why is Brainspotting Especially Effective with Athletes

Unconscious Processing
Brainspotting works on an unconscious level, allowing athletes to address emotional issues without having to verbally express them.
Targeted Treatment
It can be focused on specific issues like injuries, concussions, or performance disruptions, often requiring fewer sessions than traditional therapies.
Performance Anxiety & YIPS
It is particularly effective in treating performance anxiety and the YIPS, often in as little as one session.
Promotes Mind-Body Connection:
It helps improve self-awareness, mind-body connection, and overall stress reduction.
No Need for Full Understanding
Athletes do not need to consciously understand their issues for the therapy to be effective.
